After living in a 3 Bd, 2 Ba Townhome with about 1200 sqft in Denver from 2005 - 2007, we were ready for an upgrade. With the assistance of Greg Anderson of The Anderson Team, we were able to locate and go under contract on a great split level home in Aurora, CO (just East of Denver) within 2 months of our initial "Let's test the market and see what we find" search. The split level floor plan allows for a 4 Bd, 2.5 Ba with aprox. 2,000 finished square feet. A plus is a great eat-in, open kitchen with vaulted
ceilings; a half basement with plenty of room for the kid's play room; a full laundry room in the basement; a two car garage; and a decent size backyard for the kids. The home was built in 2000 and it is in decent shape, with a few small needs, but nothing major came to light from our House Inspection results, so we were excited to get in the door! After a month of stress and anticipation, we finally closed on the home on April 27, 2008.The first week of owning our first place was NUTS !! Dave drove out with brother Chad to Provo, UT for sister Heather's graduation
from BYU. The duo left Denver first thing Friday morning, arrived in Provo Friday night, attended Heather's graduation Saturday morning and left for the return trip to Denver on Sunday morning. While Dave was out of town, Jentrey did her best to finish packing the rest of the townhouse in preparation for the move. But, with three kids at home (Corbin and Coleton now 4 1/2 and Adelie now 6 months old) the majority of the townhome was still waiting to be packed. But, the important thing was, that while Dave was gone in Utah, Jentrey was able to close on the home, 
and better yet, was handed our first set of keys for our own place. What a feeling of accomplishment!Day 1: On Monday, our little household got to work with packing, cleaning, and getting ready to leave the townhome. With help from a few friends from the Bible Park Ward and with even more help from Dawn and Chad, we were able to make great progress at the townhome. Dave also rented a carpet cleaner and spent a good part of the day cleaning all of the carpets at the new home....you
really get the feel for 2,000 sqft of space when you spend 5 hours vacuuming and cleaning every inch of it!Day 2: On Tuesday, more time was spent cleaning the Townhome. But the most exciting part was going to HomeDepot and getting paint for the new home. After a lengthy debate, Jentrey finally succeeded in convincing Dave to paint all four bedrooms (the study - painted in Carribean blue; the Boy's room - painted in Royal blue; Adelie's room - painted in a vibrant but fun green; and our master bedroom with vaulted ceilings - painted in a gold yellow; see pics of the final product to the right). Tuesday evening we got to work wiping down walls and taping off the rooms to prep for paint the next day.
Day 3, 4 & 5: On Wednesday and Thursday we did nothing but paint...for most of Friday morning, we finished up painting and all the needed touch up work in preparation to move in. In all, over 2 1/2 days was dedicated to just painting !! I will never paint that many rooms all at once again, what a huge task ! For the rest of Friday, Dave went and picked up a moving truck and we all went back to the townhome to load of our large cargo of stuff that we have accumulated over the years. We had the truck loaded up and unloaded at the new home in the matter of a few hours...thanks to the Bible Park ward ! Thank you all for your help and sacrifice, we could not have done it without you.
Day 6: On Saturday, we did our best to unpack and make the best out of our time to get all the essentials done as Dave would be returning to work on Monday. Dave also took some time to mow the back yard, thanks to a great gift from Mom and Dad Potter who took two of Dave's old lawn mowers from Potter Lawncare days - a lawn care business that Dave and sister Heather managed and operated for several years - and somehow managed to construct one monster, Frankenstein type mower out of the two worn out and decommissioned mowers. The grass was at least two feet deep in places and probably had not been cut since we initially walked the home while under contract.
Day 7: After a moderately event less night in our first home (the kids woke up a few times not knowing where they were and Dave kept waking up as he was tuned in to all the new and strange noises that the house was making) we woke up for the first time in a home of our own and did our best to find clean church clothes and bathing supplies to get to church (Buckley Ward off 6th Ave and Laredo) at 11am. It was truly a day of rest, and we felt like we had somehow packed three weeks worth of activities into 6 long and grueling days.
